Business’s are looking to an agile IT organisation as a catalyst for reducing the time to market for new services. They also expect the IT organisation to deliver these new services with greater levels of service at less cost.
This is presenting IT Management with significant challenges as their current infrastructure cannot react to changing business dynamics. Project driven procurement has demanded shorter lead-times to get new capacity on-line, however in some instances this has resulted in over provisioning leading to poor utilisation of capacity as well as increasing pressure on data centre environmentals such as power and cooling.
The increasing size and complexity of the IT estate is also placing pressure on the maturity of IT service management processes and supporting toolsets. IT Management need to be looking to leverage these processes and tools to meet the demands for change and pressure to reduce budgets
