It is often stated that the objective of today’s organisations is to deliver products and services aligned with their core competencies or articles of association. However in today’s IT centric economy selecting the right IT platform or solution to facilitate the delivery of IT enabled or aligned business presents a major challenge for many organisations.

Not only are they "time poor" without the available bandwidth to perform a selection exercise, but they often lack the broad market viewpoint required to ensure the widest pool of relevant technologies are embraced. Worse still, it is difficult to adopt a vendor neutral stance whilst potentially affected by internal pressures or bias.

To add further emphasis to the importance of the vendor selection challenge, the financial costs and operational impact of selecting incorrect products or technology solutions can be great and in some cases crippling to an unfortunate organisation.
