This Insight focuses on the issues facing participants in the UK savings and investment industry given the increasing adoption of open architecture as the chosen form of “packaging” for “mainstream” investment products (e.g. pensions, ISAs, life insurance bonds).
The trend away from the traditional “closed” architecture has a profound effect upon all players in the savings & investment industry value chain. Our hypothesis is that this is a fundamental shift in structure which affects all aspects of Manufacturing and Distribution, and the associated service platforms.
In order to establish a common starting point for discussion it is necessary to spell out the key challenges facing the industry and to summarise the “current state” in relation to personal financial assets and behaviour of the major participants. It is only when we agree “why we are where we are” that a discussion on the future can be fruitful.
