Morse has been working with Affiliate Asset Management over the past 6 months on a strategy and approach for realising value from a multi-boutique conglomerate model.
Affiliate Asset Management is an investment holding company of specialist asset management firms in the UK and Europe. The founding principle is to acquire and develop a stable of high quality, growing, small/medium sized investment management firms with the aim of boosting the growth of assets under management and achieving margin improvements from scale efficiencies. The longer term vision is to capitalise on the next round of consolidation amongst smaller boutique companies and to provide a fund manager friendly structure so that the mistakes of other industry consolidators are not repeated.
As part of our work together, Morse and Affiliate Asset Management have co-authored a white paper which examines the multi-boutique business model options and outlines how such an acquisition strategy should be executed along with key issues and success factors for realising value within the current market environment. McKinsey research suggests that a multi-boutique model is both highly profitable and the preferred model for absorbing acquisitions, a conclusion which is supported and expanded upon by proprietary analysis in this white paper.
