John Hannah, logistics practice head at Morse, comments on supply chain management. He points out that extended global supply chains are only as strong as their weakest link. Partners must be involved early in the design and training process. Far too often they are only brought in at the last minute, which inevitably leads to problems.
Advanced planning systems often require new levels of expertise to operate effectively. “Problems can often occur if the people using the system are not planning experts,” warns Mr Hannah. “The challenge is to make sure your people have the right level of expertise to understand the outputs of the system.”
