Yammering away at the office - The Economist

[28-01-2010]

In this report, The Economist quotes Morse’s research on Twitter as part of an article on how social networks can help rather than hinder productivity. One of the advantages of social networking seems to be that employees who spend between six and ten hours a week hunting for information find data faster by using social networking sites and employees can then utilise some of the gained time for other things.

"Morse, an IT company, estimated that personal use of social networks during the working day was costing the British economy almost £1.4 billion ($2.3 billion) a year in lost productivity."
