  • A blue chip financial company with many Oracle 8i databases required help to upgrade its applications and databases to Oracle 10g prior to the termination of 8i support from Oracle
  • The client lacked internal staff to undertake the work as current projects to deliver new business functionality took priority

Details / Actions

  • Morse migrated, upgraded and consolidated the Oracle environment, making it easier to manage and maintain, reducing the amount of support needed and cutting the requirements for data centre space, power and cooling
  • Morse created three shared platforms. Applications and databases were migrated to the appropriate platform according to profile and workload. An 8i legacy platform was also created and applications which did not support 10g, or which would soon be replaced or decommissioned, were migrated onto it

Benefits / Deliverables

  • The client now has a consolidated and simplified Oracle environment which is easier to manage and maintain
  • Overnight "batch" processing performance has improved by as much as 50%, helping to widen the back-up window
  • Disaster recovery and back-up processes have been thoroughly tested and documentation has been refreshed to aid the support team and prepare for an upgrade to Oracle 11 in the future
