A major shift in the way the UK government funds further education and workforce training means Barnfield College, like other FE institutions, has to meet the ‘New Standard’ to qualify for employer-related funding. This includes keeping accurate records of all interactions with employers and proof of quality service. However, college departments worked in isolation and there was no overall visibility of historical or planned relationships with major employers, such as Luton airport.
Morse built its own version of Microsoft Dynamics CRM, to create MERVE – Morse Employer Responsiveness and Vocational Excellence. This links directly into Microsoft’s suite of products, including Outlook and email, so it has a familiar look and feel for college staff.
There is now one single source for all college/employer activities and everyone in an employer-facing role will have access to the same, shared information. The professional image of the college is being enhanced and departments that used to compete are now collaborating. The college is now well on the way to meeting the quality standard laid down by the government.
