The challenge

Orange needed to ensure its core inventory management system built in SAP R/3 accurately tracked the movement of high value components and equipment through multiple warehouses, 450 field engineers and 13000 base stations across the UK.

Data errors and time delays caused by existing paper-based and batch processes needed to be eradicated with the objective of achieving 100 per cent data integrity.

The solution

Warehouse staff now have direct, interactive access to SAP using existing handheld devices and RF networks via SAPConsole. Field engineers and remote stock locations have direct access from PDAs connected via the Orange mobile network. Data is entered directly into the SAP system and validated at source. Morse programmed intelligence into engineers’ PDAs to cater for situations where no mobile network connection is available.
