Tarmac
"At first I have to say I was a bit apprehensive – we had never used offshore talent before. I was concerned about communications, the time zones and, well, just feeling in control of the situation. But in the end all my worries were for nothing."
Development Director, Tarmac
Tarmac needed to ensure that new employees across the world could immediately start working with Tarmac’s full SAP ERP system as the company expanded its international presence. As such, numerous English-only instructions and messages needed to be translated to other languages – quickly.
Morse proposed an outsourcing solution with a team leader based in the UK and a 9-member offshore development team based in Malaysia. The Malaysian team set to work on the changes within two weeks of the agreement with Tarmac. Morse’s lead programmer – based in Leeds – was the primary conduit for the information. The UK-based leader went through the test process with each piece of code; he then passed the code onto Tarmac for testing and sign-off.
Tarmac met their objectives in terms of both time and budget. The project proved cheaper and more efficient as many more people could be deployed against the complex task in the tight timeframe. Plus, Tarmac was relieved of all concerns about keeping on top of the project – a UK based individual regularly tracked and reported progress. UK holidays, which would have disrupted the development workflow, were not a problem. Quality control was managed throughout.
