Allianz Cornhill

"The experience and skills of Morse consultants were instrumental in helping us make the strategic choice of enterprise management platform. They have also helped us deploy HP OpenView and complementary technologies in a highly efficient and cost effective manner."

Senior IT Manager, Allianz Cornhill

The challenge

Allianz Cornhill is one of the UK’s largest general insurers. As part of the company’s drive to achieve multi-million cost savings, the IT function set out to rationalise six data centres into one. The rationalisation had to be achieved efficiently with over 30 servers coming under central management. No deterioration in service would be accepted and the IT function needed to prove performance improvements from centralisation to sceptical users.

The solution

Morse recommended HP OpenView technology and ran a proof of concept study. Allianz Cornhill selected Morse as its strategic partner for selecting and implementing the HP enterprise management platform. HP OpenView was installed on distributed servers to provide a ‘before and after’ comparison of performance. In the central data centre, Morse implemented HP OpenView to provide visibility of the entire IT infrastructure through a single console. Morse consultants worked as an integral part of Allianz Cornhill’s strategic planning and implementation team, transferring knowledge and conducting comprehensive training in HP OpenView.

The benefits

Allianz Cornhill has a single enterprise management console that gives a comprehensive view of the entire IT infrastructure. Traffic light alerts provide an early indication of any component failure or service degradation, so that early action can be taken to resolve problems. Morse implemented HP OpenView to relate events to particular business processes. Users can see not only that a performance issue exists, but which parts of the business are affected and what corrective actions are being taken.

Morse created a suite of ‘synthetic’ transactions which provide regular reports of application performance from a user’s perspective.

The intelligent implementation of HP OpenView has automated interpretation of certain performance alerts, allowing less skilled staff to respond. Problems are fixed faster and more skilled staff freed to work on other projects which deliver greater business value.
